South Australian Blue Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon)

The photo below is an example of a Eucalyptus Blue Gum tree (Eucalyptus leucoxylon) that grows in South Australia and so lucky to have this particular one growing on the family farm. If a visiting artist to this blog has been trying to find am image of an Australian gum tree to paint, this tall specimen just might be the one for you.

Gum blossoms & macro flower

The garden has freshened up after 82 points of rain that the heavens decided to bestow on us recently and is lovely after such a long dry spell. My garden does lack flowers other than the odd one that decides to burst open.
The farmyard has many native Eucalyptus gum trees that surround the two houses and sheds on the property. It helps keep the wind down though with age the bottoms of the trees are thinning out allowing a lot more blustery weather to whip around the garden.

Tomorrow I will post an old gum tree with its twists and turns that I painted many years ago and was the beginning of my love affair trying to perfect a way to paint them. Until then I hope you enjoy these two photos today.

Red Hen

I wasn't going to post anymore photos on SnapShots until after Christmas but decided that one more won't take a moment to do. This one of my red hen will put a big smile on my sisters face as she loves chooks and ducks.

Silly Galah

If you have ever heard the "Silly Galah" term before, these quick snaps will help you to understand why. You can also read more about it from the Wikipendia for Australian slang terms.

Steal it!

Yesterday these Galah's were playing out in the light rain here at the farm yesterday. I wish I had time to grab my tripod but for the time I had this was the best that I could do. As you can see the sky is very grey although it does compliment the pink feathers with these comical birds. Yes they are a silly Galah ;) !
