Copeton Dam, New South Wales

Click and steal a 446kb snapshot

The main reason for our trip interstate was to visit Malcolm's uncle and aunty. For the next few days we did just that although in no way did we stay idle. People that have lived in a region for a large number of years make the best guides to show their visitors what is on offer. Copeton Dam was one of these places that we visited while staying with our wonderful hosts and both Malcolm and I thank you for your hospitality and what you did for us.

Although Copeton Dam is extremely low with what capacity it will hold, it was a pleasure to see. I stitched two photos together to help show of this little oasis. One day I would like to see this area full to capacity with water.

I am going to organise another photo yet of this dam so stay tuned for it.

Gwydir River, Moree

Moree was the town that we spent our third night in a caravan park. After unhitching our caravan we explored the town, finding this spot near a parkland that the Gwydir River ran through. The water is discoloured after recent rains at the same time adding a compliment colour to the greens. I hope you like it.

Barwon River at Brewarrina NSW

Click and steal a 565kb snapshot

Near the Barwon River was lovely at Brewarrina, New South Wales, particularly as it was a hot day when we passed through.

This being the third day on our two week trip, Malcolm and I were just now starting to settle into the routine with our moving onto the next stop and everything else that goes with it.

Back from the bush!

G'day I am home!!!

As much as I would have liked to update SnapShots while on the road it just wasn't going to happen. In two weeks we traveled over four and a half thousand miles and visited a lot of places and have to admit to being Bushed by the time Malcolm and I made our way back to the caravan that we were towing. As this is the internet where caravan has different meanings , the first snapshot will help explain what I am talking about. That photo was taken of our first night at Broken Hill.

Our second day on the road; this photo was taken at a rest area twenty one kilometers East of Wilcannia. The country side was constantly changing and if we stopped for photos to catch the different scenery, we would need more time away than our two weeks that had been allowed for this trip.

More photos are yet to come of our trip.

Burnt Down Creek, Southern Flinders Ranges

Click and steal a 677kb snapshot

Yesterdays post was of Richman Creek in the Southern Flinders and todays post is another creek not far from Richman Creek.

As far as the creek named "Burn Down Creek" there is evidence that a bush fire had wiped out some of the large gums in the past, and one would presume that how the creek acquired its name.

Chambers Gorge - last photos

Steal a 648k snapshot

It is getting late and while Malcolm waits patiently in the Patrol I happily snap away to get some more photos as I know it will be quite some time before we visit this area again.

It wasn't until after I posted the first photo of this area to SnapShots that I regretted not starting from the very beginning of the trip by way of telling a story for the whole day. It is something for me to remember to do in future.

This last photo of the sun setting over Wilpena Pound was taken to close our daylight hours to a very big day on the road. This was the only stop that we made as the later the day became the more kangaroos we had to avoid hitting as they came out to feed. It was quite a relief to get back to Wilpena Pound caravan and camp grounds where we were staying at the time I was artist in residence.

Chambers Gorge, waterhole

Click and steal a 642k Snapshot

This is another snapshot from deep in Chambers Gorge. I have to admit to being a little disappointed when Malcolm and I found the water hole, as it was just basically lower area of the creek bed without any vegetation growing around it; well other than the tree growing out of the side of the rock as you see in this image. The eucalyptus tree is certainly a very tough one!

The waterhole wasn't all that big although there seemed plenty of depth to it, which I couldn't see because the breeze was coming down the gorge constantly in this area and rippling the water. I would have loved to have been able to take a photo of reflections in the water but knowing that we had to head back from where we had come, which was quite a distance and the time waiting for the water to level out wasn't available.

There is photos to come from this area so watch out for them.

If you haven't done so, check out the oil painting that I am working on at my Arts & Stuff blog. It is a work in progress (WIP) and by clicking here you will see my last post. There has been more work done on that painting yesterday and when I am finished today there will be another update.

Chambers Gorge, onwards we go!

Ok.... on with the chambers gorge series of photos. By the time Malcolm (husband) and I had reached this area the flies were driving us nuts and that is an understatement! To get to this area we pushed through some thick native vegetation and even met a couple of university students who were cataloging the species of plants found in this area.

We didn't walk through the gap as time was against us. The students had informed us that there was indeed a spring in this area which we found. That photo will be posted next.

The rock pool painting from the Chambers Gorge area that I am presently working on isn't going to be posted today even though I have worked most of today on it. To see my first post of the work in progress, click here.
