This post isn't about pretty pictures because I am posting two touristy images that I took while Malcolm and I stayed at Tamworth.

Tamworth is the home of the Big Golden Guitar with a lot of history associated with the country music industry in Australia.

The Longyard Hotel is behind the building that you see in the Golden Guitar image. The Longyard Hotel was lovely to view and did look out of place with the surrounding area consisting of shops/stores and homes.

Oh and the red that we sampled back at the caravan park was a nice drop that we purchased from the Longyard bottle shop.

Hanging Rock Lookout

This entry carries on from the last two posts because our next destination is a lookout called Hanging Rock, which was our main destination for that particular drive.

Some of you may remember that I do not appreciate heights. To get to Hanging Rock Lookout in New South Wales was the worse feeling I had towards this fear of heights although the more I did of this sort of thing the less apprehension I tend to feel.

In this snapshot you can see the road we travelled on although once reaching the lookout turnoff it was no more than a rubble goat track around the side of the mountain. Thankfully there was no travelers coming from the opposite direction as the road was very narrow.

One thing I have learnt from this experience is to sit on the side of the vehicle that is closest to the edge of the road. This way you are aware that the drop is further away than it looks when sitting on the opposite side because I could only see open distances with the feeling that the edge is much nearer than reality. When coming down the mountain I didn’t feel so panicky, as I could see the edge of the road.

Would I go back up to this lookout again; in a word “yes”!

Chaffey Dam "two"

This view was captured from the opposite side of Chaffey Dam to yesterdays snapshot that was posted. As you can see the light looks very different with an overall darker appearance and some loss of bright colour. Still though a very peaceful scene and would have loved to have been able to stay on the banks of this dam with out caravan while holiday in New South Wales.

Actually way over in the distance in the left of this photo, there is a bush caravan park. My husband and I didn't investigate the park therefore can't say what the conditions are like but can certainly say the surroundings are the ultimate relaxing holiday you could have. There is also fish in this dam if you are into some light recreation.

The next post will be still about this days drive so watch out for that one.

Chaffey Dam

For those that have only just found my SnapShots blog there is a series of photos of my holiday with my husband in New South Wales of Australia. If you click on the 'NSW holiday' at the base of this blog entry you will see all my post about this holiday.

Chaffey Dam was a pleasant place to visit when we left the Tamworth caravan park to do a day of touring around.

The purpose of this dam is for regulation of the natural flow of the Peel River to meet irrigation, stock and domestic requirements in the Peel River Valley. This dam also supplies water to Tamworth.

Some technical details:
Storage Capacity - 62,000 megalitres
Max. water depth - 30 metres
Max width of base - 195 metres
Length of crest - 430 metres
Height - 54 metres
Area submerged - 600 hectares
Catchment area - 42,000 hectares

This was not the largest dam that we saw but do feel the surrounding areas were the most beautiful. There will be another follow up photos so look out for that one.

After a full day on the road and feeling very pleasantly tired that glass of red wine was most enjoyable when we arrived back at the Tamworth caravan park.

Pink or is that purple no maybe a blue flower

This snapshot was taken while on holidays in New South Wales. I have no idea what this flower is called and it was the most beautiful dense tall shrub that I have seen with masses of flowers over it.

These tall shrub/small trees were scattered about around homes over towards the Eastern Coast.

D0es anyone know the name of this shrub? I have no idea if it is native to Australia or not.

Old Cow Shed

This snapshot was taken back in January 2007 on the family farm. The building was used for sheltering cattle that are no longer a part of our farm for a large number of years now.

As you can see the old building has decayed badly and very little of the straw roof remaining. Malcolm did recycle some of the stones from the fallout for our garden, which is nice because I feel that I have some of the farm history incorporated into my garden.

The low golden sunlight on the wall was something that always caught my eye when walking in the evening and thought to myself; hey why not share it with you all!

Butterfly on Yellow Daisy

Not owning a macro lens for my DSLR D80 Camera I have to make do with the lenses that I have. This will be remedied when I have the cash to spare…. It will be awhile yet!

This image was cut from a poster size snapshot and all things considered it turn out reasonably good. These butterflies are small with a huge volume flying around my head when trying to capture one that would stay still long enough. When the light caught the varied blue and purple on their body, it actually glowed as if iridescent. A great compliment to the more warm dusty colour of their wings.

I have another of these to post tomorrow from a different angle. It will also show that the amount of colour does vary on these little butterflies. Maybe that is due to their age or perhaps the gender?

Rooster

My hens think the man of the yard is a real spunk. He often is scratching around in the dirt and calling the hens over when he finds a tidbit for them to eat. As much as the hens will crowd around me to see what I have on offer for them in the way of food this rooster finds it unbefitting to do the same and keeps his distance or maybe he sees me as a threat that will take his 'girls' away from him!

Hot off the Press!

As a farmers wife, one of my jobs is a taxi driver for the men when moving farm machinery from one area on the farm to the next. As it is a dewy morning I grabbed my camera knowing that there would be light bouncing back up off the dampness with the possibility of good colours.

This is the paddock that my husband Malcolm and our son Shaun will be sowing today. Because the drought last season did not produce well, the men are direct drilling the seed straight into the ground. This will save unnecessary stress on the soil plus save cost to us as farmers. The paddock was sprayed yesterday to kill the weeds to make sure they do not survive and compete with this seasons crop.

Looking into a different direction you can see this part of the paddock is very green. Malcolm is filling up the combine ready for Shaun to sow the paddock. While dad is busy doing his job, Shaun is busy checking out the machinery to make sure everything is in order for the days job.

The Gwydir Highway

Ok onwards bound with my NSW holiday snapshots with Coffs Habour now left behind. If you are new to this blog and wonder what this holiday is about all you need to do is click on the NSW holiday Label at the bottom of this post or in the side bar.

This image was taken from the Gwydir Highway between Grafton and Glen Innes. The vegetation is so thick that there isn't always an opportunity to see right out over the landscape. Another reason was when there are good views, there are no safe areas to pull over on the side of the road.

The main reason for posting this snapshot is to show you how high we actually traveled without actually flying.

A Flower for you

The Hibiscus flowers were beautiful at Coffs Harbour along with other delightful species.
